The boys have been out for Spring Break - which was just an extended weekend. And Monday was a nice day, so we decided to go hiking. It would have been better if the dang wind wasn't so prevalent. I'm ready for warmer weather. The wind can stop now!
There was a quick 2-mile hike up to the lookout over Harpers Ferry WV. The mountain is in Maryland and looks over the rivers and the historical part of the town. We got to see the "battery". There was a place half-way up to the lookout where Union soldiers had placed cannons to fire against the Confederates. Let me just say that I am SO glad I didn't have to lug a cannon up that mountain! I thought a handcart was hard, but the soldiers pushed and pulled 3 cannons (and ammo) up the mountain with NO TRAIL. Holy cannoli!
The river to the left of the town is the Shenandoah River. The one that is running under the bridges is the Potomac. This is where the 2 converge.
The Potomac River
We parked along the river and the C&O trail. Of course the boys wanted to go see the river, so we took a peek. We could've been there for a really long time. I'm amazed that throwing rocks in a river can be so fun!
