Game 2 of Fall Tournament

Wow!

Those are the only two phrases that really describe our game last night.  It was an interesting ride!

To begin, we got to the field only for the first game to have 2 remaining innings to play.  Our team was running wild and crazy.  Once we finally got settled into the dug out there was another delay --- someone barfed in the other dugout.  We had to wait for it to be cleaned and Lysoled before we could let those kids into their dugout.  The announcer then read each boys name as he ran onto the field and then we began the game.

The team we were playing was not particularly good.  They weren't bad either!  We had a really good chance of winning!!!  The only problem we found in the first inning was that the pitching machine was sending the balls in a little high.  The coaches did all they could to adjust it, but the boys would just have to compensate for it.  Unfortunately Brad struck out both at bats and Wyatt did his first time up.  That's where the tears began...

Wyatt perceives everyone else laughing and pointing at him when he messes up.  So when he gets out, he feels he's under scrutiny and heads to the dugout wailing.  He didn't even go in the field the first inning because he was so upset.  And by the last inning when he was up to bat again, life hadn't gotten any better for Wy.

We had 2 outs and Wyatt was up.  All of the sudden the other team was getting us out left and right.  We had no chance to score and because we hit first, we had no chance to redeem ourselves with a tied score.  Wyatt hit the ball and got out at first.  That's when the top blew off!!!

Needless to say, we didn't win.  Wyatt threw a tantrum in the field and embarrassed Jake to no end.  It was pretty ridiculous. Of course he never would have acted that way had someone else been his coach!  It was a mess and we were ready to head home in the end.

So now we carry the words of Tom Hanks in A League of their Own in our minds,

"There's no crying in baseball!"

Oh my!! At least you can get him to play. Mason won't even get out there. However, I can see him reacting the same way!!

Poor Wyatt! Its such a tough situation, do you coddle the child crying or try the tough love method??? What to do...

Hmmm... making outs and orange drink mustaches. There are some things Wyatt just doesn't like.
