Favorite Song

The country radio station we most listen to in the van plays the national anthem at noon every day.  I can remember when Wyatt was itty-bitty, he would ask to turn it up.  Every time the song was over he'd proclaim, "That's my favorite song!"

Well that has been passed down to Travis.  Every time we're in the van at noon, he yells, "Turn it up!!!"  And it's the one song he doesn't mind me singing along with.

I like most versions of the National Anthem as long as they're not straying too much from the original score.  Below is a link to one of my favorite performances ever!!!

Only in America

I stole this from my friend Becky's blog (Becky's Ramblings).  I hope she doesn't mind.  I laughed at these little things, but they are so true.  And people talk about hillbillies being backward - maybe we need to take a harder look at our entire country before we start pointing fingers at anyone!!!

Only in America...can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

Only in America..are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

Only in America...do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America...do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a diet coke.

Only in America...do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America...do we have cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America...do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we will not miss a call from someone we did not want to talk with in the first place.

Only in America...do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America...do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures.

Only in America...do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

We're almost there...

Travis is 3 1/2 now, and it's time to start wearing big-boy underwear.  Our other 2 were potty trained just passed age 3, but Travis has decided to be the little one a bit longer than necessary.  He decided that it's more important to go to preschool than wear diapers.

Thanks to Uncle Clay and Aunt Jess, we have a great plan for Travis...  Madison has been earning cars from the movie Cars as she goes to the bathroom in the potty.  We decided to adopt the exact motivation for Travis since it's his favorite movie.  It's worked like a charm!

Each time he pee-pees in the potty, he gets a sticker.  If he poops in the potty he gets 3 stickers.  When he has 10 stickers on his chart, he gets to pick out a new car.  Here are the ones he's earned so far...

I ordered Sally off ebay since she's so hard to come across in the stores.  Both Lightening McQueen and Chick are color changers.  And Leak Less and Guido are extra fun ones to add to the collection.

Next ones to earn are Mater, the Hudson Hornet and a normal Chick Hicks.

Thanks to Grammy who has contributed a couple of cars for bribery! :)

Pretty Teeth

I'm really liking my smooth teeth that look so white compared to what they looked like with the brackets on them.  They don't even seem like my teeth, but I love it!

Monday I head to the oral surgeon for an implant to be put in where I no longer have a molar.  And then in early fall I'll have a crown put on.  Once I've done that I'll have a perfect smile.

Good thing we have insurance too - or it would be a REALLY expensive smile!!!

Brotherly Love

I have to say that having 3 boys doesn't often bring those tender moments that a mother can witness, but I was blessed with one the other night.

When it comes bathing, our boys have very different outlooks.  Travis LOVES baths or showers and would take them multiple times a day if we let him.  Wyatt is pretty indifferent about the whole thing.  And Brad thinks it's ridiculous that we ask him to bathe more than once a week.
When we ask them to take a shower, I often give Travis a choice of who he would like to shower with.  Most of the time his answer is Wyatt.  I don't know if it's because Wyatt is gentler about getting soap out of his hair or if it's because Wyatt will still take a bath with him on occassion where they laugh and make a big mess.  For whatever reason he chose to shower with Wyatt the other night.

Before heading upstairs Wyatt asked that I go up and help with the water.  So they took off up the steps before me, but none of us were in any big hurry.  While walking Wyatt turned over his shoulder to ask if they could take a bath instead of a shower.  So I asked Travis if that was fine with him.  Travis looked up at Wyatt and said, "Yes!"

And that's when I noticed it...  Wyatt and Travis were walking hand in hand up the steps.  It was the cutest tihng ever!!!  They held hands until they got to their room to begin undressing.  And of course they had a great time together in their bath where the water was quite deep and most of it probably ended up on the towels on the floor.

I love moments like that!  Like I said, I don't get to witness them very often, but I sure do love being a mom when I do!

Ready for Battle

I mentioned how Wyatt was a bit disappointed with his Santa gift.  Well I decided to show how everyone LOVED it.  It's still the most popular gift played with since the holidays!!!

Travis wasn't happy because he had been shot in the face!  The glasses don't cover every inch!!!

The glasses are a bit caddywompus, but other than that Wyatt looks quite cool!

And who is the worst culprit of shooting everyone???  You guessed it - the big kid himself!

Funny that there was some disappointment.  All 3 boys got Legos for gifts, but they have played with them very little!!!

5 More Days

Call me Brace Face, Metal Mouth, Tinsel Teeth, whatever...
But you only have 5 more days to do it!!!

These puppies come off on Monday - yay!  And to top it off, I get my teeth cleaned right afterward to get all the cement and gunk off.  I'll be glad when my teeth don't look so yellow from the braces!!!

Ring in the New Year

The latter part of our Christmas holiday was just as great as the first part.  We had dinner with all of the Bohon side of the family.  It was good to see everyone, since it had been an entire year since we had seen them last.  (I'm amazed at how hectic life can get when you have 3 active kids!)  We also got to see my aunt and uncle that moved back to VA this fall.

Then we were off to spend time with Shorters.  We had our annual Christmas breakfast (a few days late) at IHOP.  Yum!  Too bad Clay, Jess and the kids couldn't be with us.  And then we just hung out for a few days.

New Year's eve was spent at Jake's boss' house.  We played the Newlywed Game, Family Feud and Phase 10 until about 2am.  The boys were content playing Wii all night.
With good food and friends, we had a great time.

So now we're into a new year.  I've tried making resolutions in the past, but I think this year I'm going to continue working on the things that I have been...
Preparing to run a 10K.
Building my Scentsy business.
Spending more time with my boys.
etc, etc.

Hopefully 2010 will be a good one with many great memories!
